Jean François Raffaëlli (French, 1850–1924)

Raffaëlli began his career as a painter in 1870, exhibiting a landscape painting at the Salon in the same year.¹

Raffaëlli was invited to participate in the Impressionist exhibitions of 1880 and 1881, which caused bitter divisions within the group.¹

After winning the Légion d'honneur in 1889, Raffaëlli shifted his attention from the suburbs of Paris to the city itself.¹

Raffaëlli's work was also part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1912 Summer Olympics.¹
