Watteau arrived in Paris in 1702.¹

Watteau was admitted as a probationer to the French Academy in 1712.¹

Pater became a pupil of Watteau in 1713.²

Watteau became a full member in 1717 with the presentation of his 'Pilgrimage to the Isle of Cythera'.¹

In 1721, Pater reconciled with the dying Watteau and became a student once again.²

Pater was accepted into the Académie in 1728.²
