Jan Both (Dutch, c. 1618–1652)

Jan Both was in Rome by 1638, living with his elder brother, Andries.¹

In 1639 Jan collaborated with Herman van Swanevelt and Claude Lorrain on a project for the Buen Retiro Palace in Madrid.²

Jan Both returned to Utrecht about 1641, where he remained.¹

Certainly by 1646 Jan had returned to Utrecht, where he refined further his expansive, imaginary landscapes.²

AugJan Both was born between 1610 and 1618 and died on August 9, 1652.²
