Charles-François Daubigny

FebCharles-François Daubigny was born in Paris, France on February 15, 1817.¹

Daubigny made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1838, where he regularly exhibited landscapes for the rest of his life.²

Initially Daubigny painted in a traditional style, but this changed after 1843 when he settled in Barbizon to work outside in nature.¹

One of his works, Spring (1857), was bought by the emperor Napoleon III in 1857.³

Daubigny settled in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1860 but continued to travel around France.²

In 1862, with Corot, he experimented with the cliché verre technique, halfway between photography and printmaking.¹

Daubigny returned from England in 1870 due to the Franco-Prussian War.¹

FebCharles-François Daubigny died in Paris on February 19, 1878.¹
