Bartolomé Estebán Murillo

Around the age of 15, Murillo obtained a license for passage to America with his family, likely beginning his artistic career around this time.¹

Murillo may have traveled to Madrid around 1642, where he likely encountered the works of Velázquez and others.¹

Murillo married in 1645 and later co-founded the Academy of Fine Arts in Seville in 1660.¹

Murillo married Beatriz Cabrera y Villalobos in 1645, with whom he had ten children.¹

Murillo died in 1682 from injuries sustained after falling from a scaffold while working on a fresco at the church of the Capuchines in Cádiz.¹
