Timeline

1593

In 1593, he was apprenticed to Pieter Brueghel the Younger and later studied under Hendrick van Balen, who was also the master of Anthony van Dyck, establishing the foundation of his exceptional descriptive skills.1

1608

He traveled to Italy from 1608 to 1609, staying in Rome and Milan. In Milan, he gained the patronage of Cardinal Borromeo and was greatly influenced by works such as Caravaggio's 'Basket of Fruit'.1

1610

Starting in the 1610s, he began collaborating with the master Rubens. Through a division of labor where Rubens painted figures and Snyders handled animals and still lifes, they produced many dynamic Baroque masterpieces.1

1628

In 1628, he became the dean of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp. He achieved great commercial success and attained high social status, purchasing a house in an upscale residential area.1

1636

For the decoration of Philip IV of Spain's hunting lodge, 'Torre de la Parada', he painted about 60 hunting scenes based on Rubens' designs, marking one of the largest projects of his career.1

1640

Following Rubens' death in 1640, he served as one of the appraisers for Rubens' extensive art collection, suggesting their relationship was based on deep trust beyond a mere professional partnership.1
